How Many Classes Should I Purchase?
The number of classes that a customer should purchase can vary greatly depending on your desires. If you are looking for your student to get High School Credit we recommend purchasing 60 classes per full High School Credit (1 Year of Spanish Education).
If you are an adult traveling who just wants to learn the basics before a trip we recommend taking between 15-30 classes depending on your time frame before your trip. A goal of fluency would require 60 classes minimum as each student learns at a different pace, and in many circumstances would take much longer than 60 classes to achieve fluency.
For Kids and Early Development classes it is completely personal preference depending on the goals you have for your child. The classes are only 25 minutes long, so take that information into account when purchasing classes.
What Should I Do If My Credit Card Expires While I Am Making Monthly Payments?
In this situation the Accounting Department at Homeschool Spanish Academy will notify the client via email making them aware that their payment did not go through. The client must either then respond to the email or call 855-997-4652 supplying the updated credit card information to the Accounting Department in order to continue payments.
How long are purchased classes good for?
Purchased class packages are valid as long as a class is taken from the package at least once a year. HSA reserve's the right to cancel remaining classes in a package if a student does not use a class for over a single year (365 days).
What is Homeschool Spanish Academy policy regarding their money back guarantee?
Homeschool Spanish Academy is proud of the quality of product offered and if a customer has any concerns they may request a full refund as long as less than 4 classes have been taken. If 4 or more classes are taken, HSA may provide an option to supply a pro-rated refund. Please contact HSA for any pro-rated refund requests.
How do you select monthly payments when purchasing?
After the customer has added their desired package to the cart, the user will see a drop down box to select their desired monthly payment plan. Options vary depending on package.
What Payment Methods are accepted?
Homeschool Spanish Academy accepts credit and debit card payments directly through our website. Depending on the desired package, there are multiple monthly payment options available. For any further payment information please contact HSA customer service.
When can someone start? Do you have any specific start or stop dates?
Students of Homeschool Spanish Academy can start immediately as soon as next day and there are no specific start or stop dates. Our students are able to begin classes and end classes whenever they wish.

Do you do background checks on your teachers?
Homeschool Spanish Academy performs background checks on all of our teachers before hiring them as well as following up on the references they have provided.
What credentials do your teachers have?
Our teachers come from a diverse background with different interests and life experiences, but they all have some minimum qualifications.

- Certification to teach Spanish as a second language
Can my teacher provide a personal reference for my student?
Homeschool Spanish Academy teachers previously have provided several students a letter of reference for colleges and other institutions. This is a special request that needs to be requested through [email protected].
How do I contact my teacher directly?
Please contact HSA Customer Service, or ask your teacher in class what their work email is. From there you will be able to contact your teacher directly via email.
I would like to provide a bonus to my teacher, how can I do this?
If you would like to do this please contact info@homeschoolspanishacademy with teacher name, amount, and the message you would like to accompany the bonus.
How do I go about setting up a parent - teacher conference?
At any time parents can ask for 5-10 minutes during class to sit down with the teacher over skype and discuss student performance, goals for students, and any other possible concerns. In order to make this conference as efficient as possible, please notify your teacher via email to schedule this.
My teacher has not been available for classes for a long time what is going on?
Teachers are human too! It's possible that your teacher has had a major life event happen and they've taken a break from teaching in the short term. Your Homeschool Spanish Academy customer service will work to reschedule your classes or suggest a subsitute teacher in the meantime.
I've been rescheduled with a different teacher - what is going on?
It's possible your teacher has moved their schedule around due to unforseen events or possible scheduling conflicts. If this has happened your Homeschool Spanish Academy customer service team has either reached out or already changed your classes. Feel free to login in and go to the scheduler to review the changes and alter as you see fit.
SCHEDULING FAQ's
What are the reasons I can get a class credit back to my account?
Homeschool Spanish Academy generally will credit a class back to your account when we verify our internet has gone down during specific classes with students. User internet outtages are not acceptable reasoning for receiving a credit to the user account.
Can I take my students classes instead of my student?
Yes you can you will need to login under the parent username and on the menu bar on the left click on the transfer button.
In the transfer screen you will be able to take classes registered under your student and place them under yourself. Please keep in mind that transferring a class can only occur if the entire remaining class package is being transferred, and there are administrative fees involved with transferring classes which may result in losing a number of your previously purchased classes. How Do I Schedule a Class?
In order to schedule a class, you must go to your "Classes" section of your profile and click on the green link box in the top right hand corner of the page that says "Book Class." You will then be taken to the "Class Planner" which will walk you through the process of scheduling classes that fit your needs and schedule.
May I Schedule Classes on the Weekends?
HSA offers classes Monday through Friday with all of our qualified instructors. Saturday mornings there are some available times, however with a limited amount of instructors. If you are attempting to schedule for a Saturday morning and do not see any available times, that means our instructors are booked for that specific day.
May I Schedule classes for consistent days and times?
If you prefer to have a consistent schedule having classes on the same days and same times every week that is definitely a possibility with our "Class Planner" system. The system will offer you the option to schedule your classes at the same time every week, however it may lower your chances to have a consistent teacher due to availability issues.
May I Schedule Classes in Advance?
We recommend that students and parents schedule classes in advance as you will have a much higher opportunity of scheduling classes at times and with teachers of your choice. You are able to schedule your classes as far into the future as you want.
If I Need to Cancel a Class, Will I Lose it?
If you need to cancel a class there is no need to worry! As long as you either go online or notify us at 713-280-4652 at least 24 hours before the class to cancel the class will be credited back to you and you will be able to reschedule it again!
In the event that you need to cancel a class less than 24 hours in advance, that class will be charged to you.
In the event of an illness or medical emergency, please scan and email an official doctor's note to: [email protected] and in selected cases, the class will be credited back to your account.
How Do I Reschedule a Class?
In order to reschedule a class you must go to your profile and cancel the class that you want to reschedule. After you cancel the class you can then go ahead and reschedule it.
I am trying to book sessions with a specific teacher and they do not have any availability. What should I do?
In this situation it is always best to try another teacher or look further into the future to find spots where the teachers schedule may open up. Unfortunately, some teachers are completely booked faster than others meaning it is up to you to attempt to find and schedule far enough in advance to reserve your specific teacher preference. All of our teachers are Highly Qualified and do a fantastic job so we can assure you that you will receive a great learning experience from all of them.
May I reschedule my class for a different time in the same day?
Customers may reschedule a class in the same day, however it must be within two hours of the original schedule time. Keep in mind you will also be charged for the original class time you scheduled meaning you will be charged two classes and only be able to take one class. Classes must be cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance in order to retain that class credit.
How Many Classes Should I Take Per Week?
The amount of classes you take per week is completely personal preference, however you are limited to scheduling 5 per week. We recommend at least 2 classes per week for optimal results.
How do I know what my time zone is?
It depends on which state you're in. There are 5 time zones in mainland U.S.
1) Eastern
2) Central
3) Mountain
4) Arizona
5) Pacific
Alaska and Hawaii have their own time zones.

Are you accredited?
Yes, we are fully accredited by WASC, which is the Western Association of Schools and Colleges as a SEP, or Special Educational Program.
WASC is one of the big 4 accrediting agencies that are globally known and respected.
This means that all colleges and universities, Globally, will accept our credit for college admissions for students that are college bound.

Can the High School course be tailored to focus on passing advanced placement exams?
Homeschool Spanish Academy has worked with many students in order to help them prepare for CLEP, AP, College Placement Exams. Please inform your teacher that this is your student's end goal.
My child wants to enroll in a high school Spanish course through Homeschool Spanish Academy. How do credits work?
Great question! Our credit system is quite easy. In order to receive one high school credit, your student needs to complete one full level of our high school curriculum. Our high school curriculum is broken down into high school level 1, level 2, level 3, and level 4, roughly representing each year of high school.
Additionally, each level is broken down into two sublevels. For example, level 1 is broken down into levels 1A and 1B, level 2 is broken down into levels 2A and 2B, etc.
Each sublevel represents one semester, which is 15 weeks. In other words, level 1A is the first semester of high school level 1 and level 1B is the second semester of high school level 1. A full school year, or sublevels A and B, would therefore last 30 weeks.Each sublevel (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, etc.) covers 14 lesson-topics.* Ideally, to stay on track, a high school student would complete the 14-lesson topics for each sublevel in one semester (15 weeks). This means the student would complete twenty-eight lessons in that particular level in 30 weeks, or one full school year.
What works best for most students is to register for two semester (15 weeks each) of 2 classes per week. We recommend that for each hour students spend in class, they spend an hour outside of class doing the homework and studying the material. This translates into 120 hours of work, which is the standard measure for completion of one high school credit.
Level #A (first semester) = 14 lesson-topics in 15 weeks
15 weeks of 2 classes/week = 30 hours in class
30 hours in class + 30 hours outside of class = 60 hours for one semester
60 hours for 1st semester + 60 hours for 2nd semester = 120 hrs in 1 yr

My child is currently enrolled in HSA’s middle school Spanish program. How will this affect their progression in HSA’s high school Spanish program?
That’s great news! If your student is planning on enrolling in our high school course and has already taken middle school Spanish with us, that just means they’re ahead of the game!
If your student finishes levels 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B in middle school, for example, they would likely start in high school level 3A. It is important to note, however, that where your student begins in our high school program also depends on their level of proficiency upon entry. It is important for your student to review the concepts they learned in middle school over the break between their middle school and high school courses (if they take a break).
In the case that your student has summer vacation between their last HSA middle school course and their first HSA high school course, we would recommend our Summer School Passport program. This program provides your child with a fun and educational summertime activity that will allow them to practice their Spanish conversation and learn more about Latin American culture. Better yet, they will have a better chance of success when they commence high school in the fall!
How do I know the work that my son or daughter does will be applied to earning high school credit?
Your Homeschool Spanish Academy account includes a “Report Card” section, where you can access current grade reports for your child. Grade reports include detailed records of class sessions with the teacher, homework assignments completed, and quiz and exam grades. With these reports, it is possible not only to track your son or daughter’s progress in their high school course, but also to easily show proof of course completion.

Where on my student’s report card does it list the credit completed?
At the very top of the report card, you will see a section entitled “Summary Information.” On the lefthand side of this section, you will see listed the number of lessons covered and the amount of credit earned for that course. This information gets updated automatically as concepts are covered and homework and exams are completed.
How many credits are given per semester? How is a semester defined?
A semester is defined as 15 weeks. We recommend that high school students take 2 classes per week, although depending on their rate of learning they can also opt to take 1 or 3 classes per week. To stay on track with earning one full high school credit within the span of a school year, the student should plan to earn one half (0.5) high school credit in one semester (15 weeks, covering 14 lesson-topics).
Will college admission offices accept your credits?
Because we are fully accredited by WASC, which is the Western Association of Schools and Colleges as a SEP, or Special Educational Program, our students have the flexibility to more easily transfer their credit to public high schools or to institutions of higher learning. Our students can have confidence that their Spanish coursework will be recognized by colleges and university admissions offices around the globe.
How does my child get high school credit with your program?
Once a student completes, at least, a full semester of high school Spanish with Homeschool Spanish Academy, the student is eligible for high school foreign language credit.

**The great thing about our curriculum is that the student can move at his or her own pace. This means that if a student needs more time to cover a particular lesson topic, the teacher can dedicate the next session to reviewing that concept. Alternatively, if the student is moving through the material quite fast, one can conceivably finish one year's amount of material for High School Foreign Language Credit.
My student needs to complete Spanish I and Spanish II in a year is that possible?
In short Yes! Your student will need to be prepared to take approximately 120 classes in the year to complete both levels of our course.
What is NARHS?

What is the minimum age to start Preschool Spanish classes?
We generally start students in our program as early as 5 years old, but we've even had 4 and half year old children take and succeed in the program. Our program requires student to sit and work with a live teacher a minimum of 25 minutes at a time.
I'm looking for an example of this curriculum where do I go to find this?
We have examples of all of our curriculum for potential students on our website at: www.spanish.academy and you will scroll midway down to a button saying "Download Ebook (PDF)".
I need to change my student from Preschool Program to Elementary Program how do I do this?
In order to accomplish this curriculum change the user will need to email their teacher with the student name and what curriculum they want taught.
How Long is Each Class?
Preschool and Elementary Classes last for 25 minutes each. We find that this is the optimum amount of time for their age group as our teachers are able to engage students for the full 25 minutes while minimizing the chance of boredom or limited productivity that may occur with a longer class.
Do I need to Buy a Book or Any Outside Curriculum?
All of our curriculum at HSA is provided via PDF and will be included in the Parent and Student profile to view at the convenience of the customer. All prices are included within the cost of the customers purchased class package.
Are there classes for non-beginner Spanish Speakers within the Preschool and Elementary curriculum?
HSA caters their teaching style and educational materials provided to the individual student and his or her needs. If students have had experience in an immersion school, taken outside Spanish lessons, or have grown up with native speakers in their house, we will accommodate their learning experience to the specific level of Spanish, needs, and desires of the students and their families.
ADULT CLASSES FAQ
Do I need to Buy a Book or Any Outside Curriculum?
All of our curriculum at HSA is provided via PDF and will be included in the Parent and Student profile to view at the convenience of the customer. All prices are included within the cost of the customers purchased class package.
I am attempting to earn a certain certification using this program, can the course to be tailored?
Homeschool Spanish Academy has worked with teachers, nurses and other professions with specific learning requirements for certification. Be sure to communicate with both your teacher and info@homeschoolspanishacademy your goals in taking this course.
Can I pair myself with my High School student?
Homeschool Spanish Academy can accommodate pairing highschoolers and parents together assuming the parent is prepared to take the high school curriculum. As in all paired situtations if only one student in the pair attends the class there is no makeup class credited.
REPORT CARDS & GRADES FAQs
I need to speak to someone about my report card

How do I access my grades?
You can access your grades in real time via our website: http://Spanish.Academy
Login with your username and password and you should land on the dashboard.
From there, view the left hand navigation menu where it says, "Report Cards".
You should be able to access all of your report cards there and print them out as well.
What do I do if my grade is incorrect?
If you find that one of your grades is incorrect, send a message directly to your instructor for the fastest response time. You should be able to find her email on the website.
Additionally, feel free to email our admin office a message at [email protected], detailing the incorrect grade and the reason you believe the grade to be incorrect.
Someone from our admin staff will get that information back to the teacher and help resolve that issue.
I have paired classes do both students get separate grades?
Yes, both students will receive independent grades. Your instructor(s) will grade each student separately for both quizzes & exams.
I want to know how my student is doing from the teachers perspective how do I do this?
Great question! There are a couple ways of doing this:
1) Email - You may email your instructor directly. Her personal email should appear under "Classes" in the website.
2) Parent Teacher Conference - Every fourth or fifth class session, you'll notice that we have "Parent Teacher Conference" listed on your syllabus. This is to let you know that you will have approximately 5 minutes to meet with your instructor so that they can give you first hand information as to how your student is doing.
ASSIGNMENTS (MAC & PC) FAQ's
Do you have a textbook?
Homeschool Spanish Academy has a curriculum that is available to all students that have purchased a course via PDF for download. In order to access the curriculum please login under the student account and in the menu bar on the left select syllabus.
How Do I Download A Homework Assignment
In order to download an assignment go to the "Homework" section of your profile and look at the assigned homework.
There will be a link next to the assignment that you can click to download the PDF. Once the assignment is downloaded you will be able to go ahead and save the file to your computer and type your answers in!
Where do I look if I cant find a Students Homework Assignment?
In order to download an assignment go to the "homework" section of the profile. You will see the assigned homework in that section that will allow you to download the PDF file. If you feel that the homework assignment that you need is not in the profile, please feel free to contact HSA.
How Do I Download a Homework Assignment Without Adobe Acrobat Reader
You will be unable to download a PDF assignment from HSA without Adobe Acrobat Reader. In order to download Adobe Acrobat Reader go to this link https://get.adobe.com/reader/. Once there follow the steps to download the program.
How Do I Submit an Assignment?
In order to turn in an assignment, you must go to the "Homework" section of your profile. You will see a link next to the assigned assignment that will say "Turn In." Click on that link and then follow the process to locating your saved completed assignment on your computer, and then select it to complete it.
When I turn in an Assignment it is blank. What do I do?
If you have turned in an assignment that shows up blank after you turn it in, you most likely have not followed the process to writing on a PDF correctly.
PC
If you are working with a PC you must download the assignment first and immediately save it to your computer. If you do not save it to your computer you will not be able to capture the answers you type into the assignment. Once it is saved to your computer you can go ahead and begin to type into the assignment. Once you have completed the assignment you MUST save it again to your computer to lock in the text you have put in there. Then go to the website and submit the assignment again and it should work at this point.
MAC (APPLE)
This process is a bit different than the process for PC. Once you download the file you will right click on your mouse or track pad and it will bring up an option to "Get Info" on the file. Once you click on that option and all of the information comes up you must change the file from an adobe file to a "Preview" file. Once it is switched to a preview file you MUST save the assignment to your computer as that will allow you to type in on the PDF file and eventually lock in your answers. Once you are done with the assignment make sure you save it again. Then go to your profile again and go to the "Homework" section of your profile and submit the file.
CHARTER SCHOOL FAQ's
I would like to sign up my student through an online charter school. How do i do this?
You will need to create a user account on the far right hand side where is says login. Once you've created a user account and are logged in select classes and then in the top right hand corner click the "buy classes" button. Select the class type and then check the "Buying for Online Charter School purposes". The next screen will prompt what charter school you are apart of. If you encounter any issues please contact [email protected].
I want to use my charter funds with your program. Can you become a vendor with my online charter school?
Homeschool Spanish Academy is proud to partner with many Online Charter Schools across the country. In order to add your charter school to the Homeschool Spanish Academy partnerships you will need to email [email protected] with the name of the charter school, point of contact and the link to the vendor submission form.
My charter school recommended your program. How does payment work?
As every charter school is different please work with your educational specialist on the process of setting up payment. Most charters will send Purchase Orders to HSA, and it will be processed from there. Homeschool Spanish Academy has no preference regarding monthly payments or lump sum payments.
Does Homeschool Spanish Academy accept purchase orders?

How did Homeschool Spanish Academy get started?
Homeschool Spanish Academy is the result of Ron Fortin following his entrepenurial dream of creating a business that helps his employees and provides customers with outstanding service at an affordable price. In 2009 Ron Fortin moved down to Antigua, Guatemala on a two year mission to work as a principal of a school for impoverished children. Before beginning his new mission Ron knew none of the language. 4 weeks prior Ron was put in contact with a Spanish instructor who taught him survival spanish over Skype before he arrived. Fast forward two years Ron had completed his mission and during that time found many more teachers that taught spanish as a second language. Recognizing these teachers had the experience and talent to teach anyone the language, Ron founded Homeschool Spanish Academy Inc. 7 years later the business is thriving as new teachers and students join the program. What motivated the founders to start this business?
The entrepenural spirit is the primary driver in the foundation of this business. Think of something that would make everyone's lives better, more affordable, or more effective, if it doesn't exist dare to create it. Improving lives of people was another central focus by providing stable, salaried positions for teachers and cost effective quality instructors for students around the world. Finally, the desire to continue to grow and learn has made building this business an enriching experience for all.
Where is the business located?
Homeschool Spanish Academy has their office in Antigua, Guatemala where in one facility all teachers and staff work together to provide the best Spanish instruction.
Do you plan on providing other languages in the future?

My student has learning disabilities, is this something Homeschool Spanish Academy can accommodate?
Homeschool Spanish Academy turns out to be a great option for students who have learning disabilities that involve reading, writing, or attention deficit.
The reason is because our personalized 1-on-1 classes allow the students to use their strengths, especially if they are auditory or visual learners.
Our homework is only 10% of the grade, which is graded on completion. The quizzes and exams are worth 40% and 50% respectively, but are done in class 1-on-1 with the instructor. This is so that the instructor can ask the question and listen to see if the student understood the question properly, replied with an appropriate response, and pronounced everything correctly.
How does your program work?
Homeschool Spanish Academy is an online Spanish institution that does one thing very well. We teach Spanish in a comprehensive manner, which includes grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and oral comprehension. Most importantly however, we get our students to fluency, on average, within about 2 years (4 semesters).
We teach Spanish online via Skype, one-on-one with native speaking instructors from Antigua, Guatemala. Additionally, we work great as an independent solution, or as a supplement to other programs such as Rosetta Stone, PowerGlide, etc. because of the student's ability to communicate with a live person.
Parents and students register for classes. After that, they log into our HSA portal and schedule with our instructors. They can choose their class 1) date, 2) time, 3) instructor, and 4) frequency.
When I say frequency, you can schedule 1-10 times per week, depending on what your learning goals require.

How does your program compare to Rosetta Stone?
Great question! Rosetta Stone is great for learning things like vocabulary and identification skills.
Homeschool Spanish Academy goes one step further and pushes the student to actually use it in actual conversation with native Spanish speakers from day 1. We add the conversational piece that's so important with learning any language.
Additionally, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes reading, writing, speaking, and auditory comprehension. Our curriculum is also accredited by multiple educational accrediting organizations.

How fluent can my student or I become in a year of classes?
Great question! That depends on several factors, but generally we see folks taking at least 2 classes per week be able to hold a 5-10 minute conversation with a native speaker, without any aides or help, but only using the present tense.
A few factors that can affect your fluency:
1) Rate of learning - if you learn pretty quick, you can take more lesson concepts per session.
2) # of classes per week - we recommend at least 2 per week, but many students do 3 or more.
3) Speaking practice - your fluency will also depend on how frequently you talk to other in Spanish, and how consistent you are with that practice.
